Hywel Dda Health Charities has purchased a new bladder scanner for Towy ward at Glangwili Hospital, thanks to donations from local communities.
The Verathon scanner, along with a mobile cart and printer, has been provided at a cost of £7,000.
Senior Ward Sister Emma O’Rourke said that being able to have their own scanner will ensure prompt diagnosis and treatment on what is a busy medical ward.
Emma said: “These scanners are non-invasive, painless and simple to use and help with the early detection of bladder problems, reducing the risk of infection. This means a more comfortable and enhanced patient experience.
“This new scanner will make a big difference to patients. We are thrilled to receive it to help us with timely treatments and to support initial diagnosis for clinicians.”
Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
