Key priorities for Carmarthenshire for the coming year have been published in the Annual Report and Improvement Plan.
Along with the future objectives, the plan provides information on how the county council has performed over the past year.
It explains what the authority’s Key Improvement Objective Priorities (KIOPs) are for the year ahead, how they were selected, how they will be achieved and how their success will be measured.
The six KIOPs for 2015/16 are:
- Delivering value for money and directing resources to front line services
- Reviewing governance, decision making, openness and transparency
- Supporting older people to maintain dignity and independence
- Improving council housing stock and helping people access affordable homes
- Improving school achievements
- Tackling poverty
Deputy Leader Cllr David Jenkins said: “Local government, throughout the UK, is currently experiencing severe budgetary constraints.
“There is increasing demand and expectation, yet less resources are available. Under these conditions, we need to work even more efficiently and effectively, to maintain services and improve where we can.
“There is an increasing need to focus on efficiency – delivering more, or even the same, for less.”
Customer satisfaction feedback, performance indicator results, all Wales comparison data, and external regulators findings are all contained within report.
External regulators validate this self-assessment. The Improvement Plan complies with the Local Government (Wales) Measure 2009 which requires councils to publish two plans each year – a forward looking plan and a retrospective annual report at the end of each year. Deputy Leader Cllr Pam Palmer said: “We believe in making comprehensive information available to the public so that they can see our plans for the future and judge how successful we have been.
“The report informs members of the public of what we aim to achieve in the coming year and provides an honest, open and balanced evaluation of our performance during 2014/15. It is an essential part of our improvement cycle.”
All actions and targets in the plan will be monitored throughout the year and reported on at year-end.
