•           Following last year’s successful partnership, Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation again becomes lead partner for the charity’s annual Secret Santa fundraising campaign

•           An incredible £300,000 donation will create an emergency fund to support those most in need this winter

•           Last year’s donation helped the charity support over 2,500 families across the UK

Action for Children is thrilled to announce the creation of the Action for Children Iceland Winter Fund, thanks to an incredible £300,000 donation from the supermarket giant’s charitable foundation. This money will go directly to families supported by the charity across the whole of the UK, helping the most vulnerable children this winter.

Last year Action for Children and the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation worked together to support nearly 7,000 vulnerable children. Every single member of the 28,000-strong Iceland staff became an Action for Children Secret Santa as the Foundation donated £280,000 on their behalf to disadvantaged children and their families.

This year, with help for the most vulnerable in our society needed more than ever, the donation has increased to £300,000 thanks to an uplift in the number of colleagues employed by Iceland. This will once again ensure families aren’t left without the essentials over Christmas. As well as help with food, grocery vouchers, fuel and bills, the money will also be spent on white goods such as freezers, cookers and microwaves, as well as pans and cutlery.

Melanie Armstrong, Action for Children chief executive, said: ‘We’re absolutely thrilled the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation has once again chosen to be the lead partner of our Secret Santa campaign.

“It’s frankly shocking that in 2021 there are still more than four million children living in poverty in the UK. But Action for Children is working hard to change this. With this incredible donation from the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation, we can be a vital lifeline for thousands of UK children, making sure they have hot meals over the winter months.

Paul Dhaliwal, Trading Director at Iceland Foods and IFCF Trustee, said: “We as a company are under no illusion about the challenging economic situation so many families currently find themselves in and the thought that over four million children could be going hungry and cold at this time of year is unbearable. I am so proud of Iceland’s charitable foundation and the work it does to support good causes – and what could be a better cause than this at Christmas time? I know that the staff at Action for Children will work tirelessly to make sure this money helps those who need it most and I’m delighted that Iceland can play its part in making that happen, by donating £10 on behalf of each of our 30,000 colleagues.”
