Hywel Dda Health Charities on David Lloyd’s charity cycle ride

David Lloyd’s cycle in memory of his mum raised a fantastic £2,566 for Withybush Hospital as a thank you for her care.

David, accompanied by his friend Gavin Alexander and his daughter’s boyfriend Jake Cox, cycled the 156 miles from Bristol to Milford Haven over three days at the beginning of August.

“Mum had such fantastic care from the staff and doctors at Withybush, especially in her final weeks, and that meant so much to all the family,” said 56-year-old David.

David said the ride went well although they were a little nervous at the start because of the “biblical” rain on the night before and morning off the ride.

“Thankfully, by the time we set off the rain had stopped,” David said. “But a wrong turn meant we went up a big hill we didn’t need to climb, we had to walk across the Severn Bridge because of the wine and there was a diversion which added another four miles to our longest day!

“Then there was torrential rain again on day two and for part of Sunday but by the time we got to Pembrokeshire the sun was out at last.

“The most memorable moment was riding into Edward Street in Milford Haven to finish the ride and being greeted by my family. We would all like to thank everyone who donated. We are blow away by people’s generosity and by the amount raised

A couple of our team were delighted to meet David, Gavin and Jake when they called at Withybush Hospital whilst on the last leg of their journey to Milford Haven.

“We are truly humbled that Anne’s family would do this to thank our team for the care provided to Anne whilst a patient on Ward 4. We are very grateful to everyone who supported Anne’s family in raising such a large amount and our teams are now thinking about how they would like to spend the very kind donation.”
