Christmas jumpers styled around the hit US series Friends are also among the UK’s most popular, fetching 2,700 searches a month. These were closely followed by Christmas jumpers featuring Baby Yoda, which pull in 2,400 searches a month.
Jumpers themed around the movie Die Hard pull in 2,200 searches a month, making them the sixth most Googled style of Christmas jumper on the list. Pokemon Christmas jumpers are next on the list with 1,600 monthly searches – and Christmas jumpers featuring the Pokemon ‘Eevee’ are the most sought after.
The famous Christmas film Home Alone is also one of the most popular themes for a Christmas jumper, with searches for ‘Home Alone Christmas Jumper’ at 1,400 a month.
‘Light up Christmas jumper’ was also one of the most Googled styles of jumpers, recently popularised by the John Lewis 2021 Christmas advert, in which a young boy gives an alien girl a Christmas jumper which lights up.
The video game Fortnite also made its appearance as one of the most Googled Christmas jumpers, with ‘Fortnite Christmas jumper’ raking in 1,100 monthly searches.
A spokesperson for Design Bundles, which conducted the research, said: “Christmas jumpers are an iconic part of festive traditions in the UK, from work Christmas dos to the endless rounds of drinks and meals with family and friends. With searches for ‘Christmas jumper’ skyrocketing over 1000% the first week of November, after the release of the John Lewis Christmas advert, it’s fascinating to see how much TV, movies and popular culture impact the Christmas jumpers we want to wear, from Star Wars and baby Yoda, to Fortnite and Jurassic Park.
With Christmas Jumper Day (organised by the charity Save The Children) coming up on the 10th December 2021, Brits may well already be planning the Christmas jumpers they want to wear, and considering their Christmas outfits more broadly for the upcoming festivities”
