Free food safety courses are available to help people in Carmarthenshire find work in catering.

Carmarthenshire Communities First arranges the courses which give participants a level two food safety qualification.

A course was held recently at Llanelli Library which had very positive feedback from those who attended.

Communities First Family Learning Worker Rhian Richards said: “The participants said it was a really interesting course, and one stated that they were glad they had done it and got the qualification to work in the catering business.”

The course aims to develop knowledge of the principles of food hygiene, and trains the students to the national required safety level.

Executive board member for Communities First Cllr Meryl Gravell said: ”We want to tackle the barriers that prevent people from finding employment, and this course puts people in a good position to apply for jobs that handle food.

“The Communities First team aims to contribute, alongside other programmes, to narrowing the education, skills and health gaps between the most deprived and more affluent areas.”

Anyone interested in finding out more about the courses should call 01554 784847 or email communitiesfirst@carmarthenshire.gov.uk
