LLANELLI YOUNG PEOPLE TO GET DISCOUNTED BUS TRAVEL

Llanelli AM Keith Davies is reminding 16-18 year olds to register for a new discounted travel scheme recently announced by the Welsh Government.

Mr Davies hopes the scheme which will help young people access education and training – cutting a third off the price of an adult bus ticket from September 1st.

However, users must register for the scheme first by visiting the new Welsh Government website at mytravelpass.gov.wales

Developed in partnership with the bus industry and local authorities, it’s designed to help young people travel to and from training and employment more cheaply, but has been extended to cover all of their bus journeys.

“Affordable transport underpins the economy with Llanelli’s mixed urban and rural routes. I’ve led short debates on employment in West Wales, time again transport is a key condition of workforce movement.”

“This month’s Queen’s Speech showed how the Conservative government in Westminster are hitting young people hard on housing, pay and maintenance grants. Here in Wales, we’ve added this to our proud record of supporting young people to succeed in employment, training and study.”

“The City Regions model being developed for West Wales relies heavily on the bus network, unlike Metro developments to the East. I’m pleased to see progressive measures in place so that transport costs are less of a barrier for young people getting to work or education.”

The Welsh Labour Government has allocated £5million to the introduction of the scheme in 2015- 16, and a further £9.75million in 2016-17. The scheme allows 16-18 year olds to receive discounted fares on all local buses and TrawsCymru journeys throughout Wales from 1 September.
