NEWCASTLE football fans are being encouraged to extend their stay and do Swansea Bay in 48 hours.

A ready-made holiday plan has been put together for the Toon Army, many of whom will be coming to the city this weekend for the Barclays Premier League clash against the Swans at the Liberty Stadium.

A blog called the Swansea Bay Premier Weekender is being published on the official Visit Swansea Bay destination website and promoted on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ in the build-up to Saturday’s game. This will reach an audience of more than 60,000 followers and fans.

Swansea Council’s tourism team is behind the blog. A trip to the city centre’s attractions and restaurants is being recommended for Saturday before visits to Mumbles and Gower on Sunday.

Readers of the blog will also have the opportunity to download a guide that covers things to do in Swansea Bay.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Our tourism team is always thinking of new, imaginative ways to make the most of Swansea’s Premier League status. You see 48-hour guides in some of the world’s most popular destinations, so we thought we’d give it a go here in Swansea Bay.

“This area lends itself to a hugely enjoyable 48-hour stay. Visiting fans have the chance to enjoy the city centre and the Premier League football on one day before discovering the world class scenery of Gower the next.

“The Swans continue to do a terrific job in putting the city on the map across the world, so we’ll continue to do all we can to make the most of the exposure they generate. More innovative campaigns will follow this autumn to help further boost a tourism industry that’s already worth more than £390 million a year to the local economy.”

Swansea Bay continued to be promoted across the UK and beyond during football’s off-season with a combination of poster and digital campaigns. Thousands of positive online and offline column inches have also recently been generated thanks to visits from journalists representing titles, programmes and websites including Coast Magazine, Countryfile, the Radio Times, the Daily Mail, the Daily Express, Pommie Travels and Bemused Backpacker.
