A six-try victory over Jersey RFC got Scarlets’ 2015-16 campaign underway on Saturday but head coach Wayne Pivac insists that his side have plenty to work on before facing Newport Gwent Dragons on Friday evening.

Speaking after the game Pivac said; “We put a line in the sand today but we have plenty to work on. We scored six tries, saw some good attacking play and good tries. The negative was we let four in.”

Amongst nine debutants given an opportunity was the second youngest player to represent the region in the modern era with centre Ioan Nicholas, at 17 years and 134 days, marking his debut with a try.

Pivac went on to say: “We had a 17 year old out there and a couple of 18 year olds. It was pleasing for them I thought. Funnily enough the oldest man in the team Regan King impressed us!”

An impressive 60-minute performance by centre Regan King won him man of the match acclaim.

“Today was about giving everybody an opportunity. They’ve all been training hard behind the scenes. To get those young guys out there and give them a taste at this level was important. All in all there were more positives than negatives and we came away with no injuries.”

Scarlets will head to Rodney Parade on Friday evening to take on fellow Welsh region Newport Gwent Dragons before taking on Bedford Blues at Llandovery’s Church Bank on Saturday 29th August.

“We’ll look to put as strong a side together as we can at this time of the season. We have a six-day turnaround before the next game but today was a great opportunity to start the season with a victory and to do so away from home. We got 40 points on the board which is pleasing.”
