Mark Running

It’s fair to say Mark Roman is nothing if not determined.  The keen runner has seen his attempts to run half marathons for Action for Children stymied by Covid postponements and if that wasn’t enough, he suffered a minor stroke due to a blood clot at the back of the brain and spent 7 days in hospital.

Mark, 54, from Caerphilly, a member of the admin team at the charity’s Cardiff office, was not about to let these setbacks stop him and thankfully, he has fully recovered and will take on the Christmas Celtic Trail Half Marathon in Aberdare on the 18th December.

Mark said: ‘When I got back home from hospital, the first thing I saw was my Action for Children running vest that had ironically been delivered that day.  Though it rubbed salt into an already depressing wound, I was more determined than ever to get into the running vest before the end of the year.

Mark Training

‘I had to start from scratch in my training, jogging 1 mile then 3miles, building up my strength to go further and now I’m fully fit again.  I’m just pleased I can raise money again for Action for Children and hope the funds raised will help the children and young people we support this Christmas’.

Mark will finish his fundraising by doing the delayed Cardiff Half Marathon in March.
