Pembrokeshire GCSE results

The percentage of pupils in Pembrokeshire achieving WJEC grades A* or A in GCSE examinations this year is 17.2 per cent – a slight drop from 18.3 per cent the previous year.

The percentage of pupils in Pembrokeshire achieving A* – C grades is 66.0 per cent similar to the Wales figure of 66.6 per cent.

The A* – G percentage pass rate in Pembrokeshire is 99.0 per cent.

The figure for pupils achieving the Level 2 inclusive measure which includes a GCSE grade A*-C in English or Welsh first language and Mathematics was similar to previous years. Five out of the eight secondary schools made positive progress in key indicators.

There were improvements in Science and Welsh first language.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Director of Education and schools, Kate Evan-Hughes, said: “Overall provisional results in Pembrokeshire show some areas of improvement; however we are fully aware that further work has to be done to improve consistency across schools.

“I am pleased that most of the targeted schools have shown considerable improvements. We will continue to work robustly to ensure that all schools deliver the expected outcomes.

“We congratulate all of the students on their achievements.  Their results are down to the commitment and hard work of the pupils, the dedication of teaching staff and the support of their families. We wish them every success in their future.”

Pembrokeshire County Council Leader, Councillor Jamie Adams, said: “While overall there is evidence of some improvement, there are still some schools with a number of challenges. We need to learn from those schools that have shown steady improvements and share it widely with others so that all Pembrokeshire secondary schools show continued improvements and achieve expected levels.”
