Commenting as the Minister for Education announces an additional £18 million in 2021-22 to support Additional Learning Needs (ALN) provision, Laura Doel, director of NAHT Cymru, said:

“Calls for additional ALN funding has been a cornerstone of NAHT Cymru’s campaign agenda and we welcome any new money being brought into the system.

“What is not clear is what the overall financial need is currently to implement the new system across Wales, but from what our members tell us there will need to be significant extra funding in place on top of what is already promised.

“We know that it is only as schools begin to assess existing need as well as expected need of learners that the true costs are going to be identified. To ensure the system works for all learners, we are going to have to prepare to fund it fully.”
