Youth charity The Prince’s Trust Cymru has teamed up with Ammanford College and The Co-operative Foundation to help unemployed young people from Carmarthenshire find work in the Construction industry.
Young people, aged between 18 and 25, will take part in a free course called ‘Truth about Youth – Building Confidence?’, which aims to challenge negative perceptions of young people and help them gain the skills and confidence to find work.
During the three week programme, participants will gain a Level 1 in Construction skills, CSCS card, employability skills and practical construction experience as well as organising a community project. The young people will also spend time meeting with prospective employers. The community project will involve renovation of The Prince’s Trust log cabin in Pembrey Country Park, which is used to support Prince’s Trust programmes and local community groups.
Mark Joseph, Programme Executive at The Prince’s Trust, said: “This project gives young people the chance to prove that they have a huge amount to offer employers as well as their local community. Young people are often portrayed negatively but Truth about Youth helps to break down barriers, and prove that most young people want to help others, and want to get into work.”
A ‘taster day’ where young people can find out more will take place on the 25th August and the programme will run from the 1st to 18th September. To find out more, contact Layla Benkhayal on 07852 531594 or layla.benkhayal@princes-trust.org.uk
The Truth about Youth programme forms part of The Co-operative’s commitment to inspiring young people and helping them to access training and engage in community projects.
Youth charity The Prince’s Trust Cymru supports more than 3,500 young people in Wales each year through its programmes. Three in four young people supported by The Trust move into work, education or training.
