MORE than 300 food waste bins were handed out by the council’s recycling team in Llanelli.

Officers were in the St Elli Centre to raise awareness of recycling and to give information and advice.

They also handed out extra blue bags and new or replacement food bins to those that needed them either because they had not had one before or it had broken.

A total of 162 green food bins and 150 small brown kitchen food bins were issued on the day.

Executive Board Member for the Environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “The team were very busy in Llanelli and it was great that so many people went along to speak to them.

“Recycling and bin collections are an important service for residents and it is vital we recycle as much as we can including our food waste.

“We also need to think about recycling items not only from the kitchen but from other rooms in the home too including the bathroom, living room and the bedroom.

“Empty aerosol cans, plastic coat hangers, toilet roll tubes, toothpaste boxes, shampoo/shower gel bottles, bottle tops, receipts and envelopes can all be recycled in our blue bags.”
