A host of after school activities are being planned across the county’s leisure centres.

The junior programme is set to be rolled out in September at Llanelli, Ammanford and Carmarthen.

A feast of activity will be held between 4 and 6pm and include Zumba, hockey, netball, football (hosted by Swansea City Trust), toddle and balance bikes, racquet sports and athletics. In addition there will be sessions for pre-school children during the day.

Designed to guide every child through the sporting pathway, they will learn vital skills including throwing, catching, running, jumping and landing techniques. As they become better they’ll be introduced to new skills. The stages are fun, progressive and designed to be a continuous journey through sport ensuring a smooth transition into community sports clubs.

In Carmarthenshire 26.2% of children aged 4 to 5 years were classed as obese, according to the Child Measurement Programme for Wales Report 2013/14, whilst 40% of children participated in sport or physical activity three or more times a week.

The class will be held after school and at weekends. For pre-school children the classes will be held during the day. For further information call Llanelli on 01554 774757, Carmarthen 01267 224700 or Ammanford 01269 594517.
