New data shows interest in movie award shows has declined 82% in the past ten years
Analysis of Google search data has revealed that online searches for the Golden Globes have fallen by 82% worldwide compared to the past ten years, with searches for the Oscars falling nearly 70% since the 2019 Awards ceremony alone.
New findings by PokerListings.com reveals that online searches for award shows have fallen by nearly half in recent years, according to Google search data. Controversy surrounding this years Golden Globes ceremony has led to the event not being broadcasted, which in turn has brought searches down further.
The data also shows that despite both falling in interest considerably, the Oscars has more than double the searches of the Golden Globes.
A spokesperson for PokerListings.com commented on the findings:
“This data shows that award shows have not sparked anywhere near the same interest as they did before the pandemic, with the 2021 Oscars ceremony pulling in in its lowest number of viewers since records of viewership began in 1974. It’s also clear how much the complete lack of broadcasting has affected the Golden Globes as well, and it’ll be interesting to see how upcoming award shows in 2022 will adapt to bring back old viewership as well as attract new viewers.”
