Coleg Sir Gâr picks up acting and screenplay award

Coleg Sir Gâr’s performing arts team are celebrating two awards for their involvement in the BBC’s series, Made in Wales, featuring British actor James Bolam.

Jordanna Moran, a former national diploma performing arts student at the college won Best Supporting Actress at the It’s My Shout awards which is an annual, glitzy celebration of new talent. It’s My Shout is a training scheme supporting new talent wanting to work in the creative industries which has already launched the careers of many writers, actors and directors.

Every year, the awards are supported by many well-known faces from TV. This year Welsh actress Kimberley Nixon, from Channel 4’s Fresh Meat and Torchwood actress Eve Myles showed their support and joined a range of new talent at the red carpet event.

Mike Waters also won Best Screenplay for the film Tentboy which starred former Likely Lads actor, James Bolam who acted alongside Coleg Sir Gâr performing arts students in the film.

Six films, including Tentboy, were premiered at the awards and have since been broadcasted on BBC2. Eleanor Shaw, course leader for performing arts and shadow director for the film, said: “We’re delighted to be presented with awards again this year.

This scheme is a fantastic opportunity and experience for our students and we get involved every year. Jordanna is now studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama after completing her national diploma last year and this experience will no doubt have played its part in her successful audition.”
