Hywel Dda Health Charities has purchased a new Electrocardiogram (ECG) machine costing more than £8,000 for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Prince Philip Hospital, thanks to local donations.
The ECG machine will be used to check patients’ cardiac rhythyms and electrical activity, helping to diagnose and monitor heart conditions.
A recent expansion means the Intensive Care Unit now has eight beds, providing care to critically-ill patients.
Senior Sister Catherine Cole said: “We are already seeing the benefits. The ECG machine will help improve the patient experience. ECGs are carried out on new admissions and continue throughout each patient’s stay in the ICU.”
Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said the charity was extremely grateful for every donation received.
“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda, making a positive difference to the health, wellbeing and experience of NHS patients, service users and staff.”
