Responding to reports that Welsh farmers are being “cold called” by investors seeking to buy land to offset their carbon footprint, Plaid Cymru’s spokesperson for agriculture and rural affairs, Mabon ap Gwynfor MS said,

“The land grab of Welsh farmland to offset the carbon footprint of multinational companies is having a damaging effect on Wales. This is nothing more than “greenwashing” in order to ease the climate conscience of large corporations, and effectively allow them to continue with their dirty industries.

“But this extractive economy is resulting in the loss of family farms, which in turn threatens the rural communities around them, the language, and the means of food production.”
