Off-duty officer Barry Davies has been hailed a hero for helping to save the life of a man who collapsed at a Neath sports ground.

Barry was umpiring a cricket match at Ynysygerwn Cricket Club when he rushed to the aid of a dad who fell to the ground and stopped breathing while watching his son’s football training.

Along with a nurse and a hospital consultant who were also present at the ground, they came to the rescue of 44-year-old Barrie Davies.

Now grateful officials at Ynysygerwn Cricket Club have paid tribute to their actions which helped save Barrie Davies’s life.

Consultant radiologist Suresh Dalavaye and nurse Michelle Davies carried out CPR while Barry did mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while another parent who is a physiotherapist maintained Barrie’s airway.

They continued until a First Responder, paramedics and the Wales Air Ambulance arrived.

Barrie was taken to Morriston Hospital where he underwent a double bypass operation and is now recovering at his home in Briton Ferry.

The father-of-two has since been reunited with the trio and told them how grateful he is for their swift actions.

Ynysygerwn Cricket Club secretary Howard Bowden was so impressed by the trio he wrote to South Wales Police and ABMU Health Board commending their actions.

He said:

“Barry, Suresh and Michelle should be very proud of what they did.

“They showed the professionalism and selflessness that goes with the territory of their jobs  and all their actions deserve recognition at the highest level.”
