Three Lift clients have just completed an eight week work placement at the DVLA in Morriston.

Ruth John, Paul Allchurch and Stuart Kenyon were all based within the enforcement team and each one was placed in their own team which provided support throughout the placement.

During the eight weeks all three made a positive contribution to the business and were mentored by a member of staff. The feedback they gave upon completion was positive.

Paul said: “It was a fantastic experience and I enjoyed attending every day. I felt like a valued member of staff and I was well supported throughout my placement.”

The clients are currently waiting for feedback on the applications made for fixed term posts within the DVLA.

Set up in April 2014, the Lift programme supports those Communities First residents who are living in a workless household and who are long term unemployed. It is a pilot initiative run by Carmarthenshire County Council as part of the Welsh Government’s tackling poverty agenda.

The council’s executive board member for regeneration Cllr Meryl Gravell said:

“This type of opportunity shows the value that the Lift Programme can add to clients’ aims to improve their employability skills and gain sustainable paid employment.

“I’m delighted that these work placements have proved so positive for the Lift clients taking part and I would like to wish them all the best with their applications for fixed term posts at the DVLA.”

“This shows the good work that the Lift Programme is doing to help people develop their employment skills, gain experience and go on to find work.”
