YOUNG runners who may have been inspired by Mo Farah’s heroics at the World Athletics Championships still have time to enter a number of forthcoming races in Swansea.

On the day of the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k on Sunday September 20, a number of other races have also been organised for younger runners.

The races include a 5k race for 15 to 21-year-olds, a 3k race for nine to 14-year-olds and a 1k race for children aged 11 and under.

Swansea Council is behind the overall event.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Over 4,000 people are expected to take part in the main Admiral Swansea Bay 10k race, but a number of other races have also been organised for the day to ensure the overall event caters for all the family.

“There’s still time for young people to enter the junior races. They’re a great way of introducing children to fun and fitness that could a spark a lifelong passion for exercise and healthy competition.

“The profile of long-distance running is especially high at the moment, given Mo Farah’s gold medal-winning feats at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing last month, so it’s fantastic that we have a world class event right here in Swansea Bay that gives young people the opportunity to test their running talent. For people not taking part, it’s also a wonderful event to watch that boosts local traders too because of the numbers it attracts.”

For only £5, all junior runners who enter before the Friday September 11 deadline will receive a t-shirt, a medal, a certificate and a goody bag.

Buses will be available to transport competitors and parents to the start lines of the junior races.
