The NINJAGO City Gardens set is the best value for money Lego set, new research has revealed.

The study by puzzle experts im-a-puzzle.com analysed the sets available on the Lego website and calculated the cost per 100 pieces to show the best value for money Lego sets.

Analysis of the data revealed that the NINJAGO City Gardens is the lowest price for the number of pieces in the set. The set has 5,685 pieces for a fee of £249.99, resulting in 100 pieces costing £4.66. The NINJAGO theme is a Lego original and involves a group of young ninjas battling against evil forces. This set was the largest NINJAGO set ever and was released to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the theme.

Coming in at second is the Colosseum from the Creator Expert theme. The set based on the famous Ancient Roman architecture has the second-highest number of pieces available at 9036, and a price of £439.99. This equals 100 pieces costing £4.87.

Another set from the Creator Expert theme ranks third on the best value for money Lego sets; the Bonsai Tree costs £44.99 and includes 878 pieces, meaning 100 pieces cost £5.12. This set provides the most amount of frog pieces with 100 pink frogs acting as the cherry blossom flowers.

At fourth, ‘The Brick-built Minions and their Lair’ offers 876 pieces for £44.99, costing £5.14 for 100 pieces, just behind the Bonsai Tree. The set offers builders to make brick-built versions of fan favourite minions, Kevin and Stuart, that also act as rooms for the smaller minion minifigures included.

The Taj Mahal is the fifth-best value for money Lego set. The set based on the mausoleum in India costs £104.99 and provides 2022 pieces to build with, resulting in 100 pieces costing £5.19.

Coming in at sixth place is The City of Lanterns from the Monkie Kid theme. The Lego set includes 2187 pieces for a price of £114.99, roughly £5.26 per 100 pieces.

The third set from the Creator Expert theme appears at seventh on the list, the Camp Nou – FC Barcelona, based on the football stadium, costs £289.99 and features 5509 pieces, costing £5.26 per 100 pieces.

Three sets from the Ideas theme finish off the top ten, with Seinfeld coming in at eighth, costing £5.28 per 100 pieces. LEGO NASA Apollo Saturn V and Sonic the Hedgehog – Green Hill Zone tie for ninth, with both sets offering 100 pieces for £5.33.

A spokesperson for im-a-puzzle.com commented on the study, saying: “Lego has been one of the most popular toy brands for decades now, and the high popularity of the brand is still going strong. The Danish toy brand offers hundreds of sets across multiple themes based on film franchises such as Star Wars. It is interesting to see which Lego sets are the best value for money, considering some of the more expensive ones cost nearly £700.

“The data shows that the best value Lego set is the NINJAGO City Gardens, and it is fascinating to see Lego’s own themes come out on top, along with the Colosseum and Bonsai Tree from the Creator Expert theme.”
