Staff at Afan Outdoor Leisure are planning an 18-mile bike ride in June to raise money for the Bronglais Chemo Appeal – and they are inviting anyone else who wants to join in to get in touch.
The ride is being organised by sales assistant Stuart Hickman and mechanic Jon Burr and they already have more than 15 staff members and relatives signed up.
The event, which will be beginner-friendly, will start from the Afan site on Glan yr Afan
Industrial Estate at 10am on Sunday, 12th June and take a route out to Cwm Rheidol and back
A small group on non-cyclists will be doing a 10k walk on the day instead, so people are also invited to get involved with that.
The Bronglais Chemo Appeal aims to raise the final £500,000 needed for construction to start on a new, purpose-built chemotherapy day unit for Bronglais Hospital, to improve the patient experience
Stuart, 51, a keen cyclist himself, said: “We all know someone who has been affected by cancer. The Bronglais Chemo Appeal is a local charity benefitting our local communities.
“We are lucky to have a chemotherapy day unit local to us. We really hope the community will come together to help get the Appeal to its £500,000 target so we can have a new, purpose-built day unit that is fit for the future.”
Afan Outdoor Leisure’s Director Andrew Davies donated £250 to kick-start the fundraising page and more than £500 has already been raised towards the £2,000 target.
People who would like to join in can set up their own fundraising page or donate at https://hyweldda.enthuse.com/pf/afan-outdoor-leisure. Or, alternatively, riders can pick up a sponsor form from the shop.
