St Davids and Fishguard consultation to start

Statutory consultation is to start on Wednesday, 16th September on a review of secondary education provision in the Fishguard and St Davids areas.

A report on the review was presented to an Extraordinary Meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council yesterday (Thursday).

Members approved the recommendation within the report.

The recommendation proposed that the Director for Children and Schools be authorised to undertake statutory consultation on a proposal to:

• Designate Ysgol Bro Gwaun as a 11-16 school and to provide additional ALN provision for pupils with complex learning needs
• Discontinue Ysgol Dewi Sant, Ysgol Bro Dewi VA and Solva CP School and establish a new 3-16 Church in Wales Voluntary Aided or Voluntary Controlled school; site arrangements to be determined prior to statutory consultation in discussion with the Diocese
• Continue discussions with the Governing Body of Ysgol Croesgoch with a view to the school becoming Welsh medium over time
• Provide post 16 provision for the above Schools in a new sixth form centre as part of a formal collaboration between the County Council and Pembrokeshire College

The closing date for responses is 28th October. 

The consultation also includes two public information sessions.

The statutory consultation will be undertaken with a wide range of stakeholders, prior to the findings of consultation being further considered by Council and the Council’s proposal published in the form of a statutory notice.
