Volunteers at the Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway near Llanelli have been busy during the winter creating much improved visitor facilities at their Cynheidre base. A new and much improved toilet block is the centre piece with step free access for those with mobility issues. The main public area’s have been reorganised and tidied up to create much more circulating space and a new heritage display created in the main stock shed. These developments are just the first stage of a site development plan which will see a new cafe, waiting room and display areas created along with woodland and country crafts.

The toilet block was purchased recently from a South Wales based supplier and transported to Cynheidre. Now fully plumbed in it is ready to welcome visitors on our first Open day in late March. The railway would like to thank Llanelli Town Council and the Change Makers Fund for their support with this project.

The railway will re-open with a gala running day on Saturday 26th March 2022 to kick start the new summer season with regular events then following through to October.

The railway is a charity run totally by volunteers. It is hoping to grow into a major tourist attraction for the Llanelli district and in order to reach our goals we need more volunteer help in all departments including operational, maintenance and restoration, and administration. If you could spare a few hours for what is a most enjoyable pastime and worthwhile cause do not hesitate to get in touch.
