Carmarthenshire County Council believes it may be the first local authority in Wales to use new legislation to tackle ongoing anti-social behaviour at a Penygroes home.
The council’s new Housing Enforcement and Solutions team are using a Closure Notice to safeguard tenants and residents at Spien Road, who have been affected by the actions of a tenant and friends she has invited to her home.
Housing officers presented evidence at Llanelli Magistrates Court this week, and were awarded the order – the first time such action has been taken by Carmarthenshire County Council, and possibly the first time for any Welsh local authority.
It means that for the duration of the order only the tenant, landlord, and emergency services are permitted to be at the property – any other persons are liable to arrest.
The council has also obtained an outright possession order on the tenant, who is now due to be evicted.
Members of the Enforcement and Solutions team visited all tenants and residents in the cul-de-sac following the court hearing to advise them of the order.
Cllr Linda Evans, Executive Board Member for Housing, said: “I’m sure this robust action will be welcomed by the tenants and residents of Spien Road. It will also be a warning to others that we are prepared to go through the courts to tackle anti-social behaviour.
“This is just part of the work being undertaken by our new Housing Enforcement and Solutions team, who are working hard to ensure tenants are able to enjoy their homes and communities.”
