Pembrokeshire County Council has started work on cleaning up two oil polluted beaches near Pembroke Dock.
The clean up follows the discovery of oil on Fort Road and Llanreath beaches this morning.
The pollution is believed to be linked to last night’s heavy rainfall flushing out oil present on the golf course at Llanreath.
Council workmen started work at Fort Road beach this afternoon manually removing materials from the shoreline.
After work has been completed at Fort Road, staff will move on to clean up Llanreath beach.
Progress will depend on tidal and resources constraints and may continue into tomorrow.
Earlier today the Council erected signs warning members of the public from walking on both beaches.
They are asked to continue to avoid the area, especially while staff are working.
Messages have also been issued on social media and via the press.
All relevant agencies have also been notified of the incident.
