The winner of the Welsh Rugby Union’s competition for a new face mask design has been revealed as 11-year-old Amelie David.
Amelie’s design was chosen as the winner out of almost five hundred other entries from children and schools across Wales.
The design competition, which was part of a partnership with Keep Wales Safe, provides a reminder of how we can all help disrupt the transmission of COVID-19 and help keep Welsh rugby safe.
Welsh rugby stars posed with Amelie, whilst sporting the winning design at training ahead of the final round of the Guinness Six Nations.
As part of her prize, Amelie was invited down to Principality Stadium to watch the squad during Captain’s run ahead of Wales match against Italy this weekend. As well as getting to meet players, Amelie will be at the stadium on Saturday with family and friends to see her Welsh rugby heroes in action.
Amelie said, “It was so exciting to find out my design won the face mask competition. I really enjoyed doing my design and I can’t wait to go to the Principality Stadium with my family and friends to see Wales play Italy.”
Wales Team Manager Martyn Williams said, “It was fantastic to receive so many impressive designs and congratulations to Amelie for her winning idea.
”We were pleased to have Amelie and the family come down and watch our captain’s run today so we could congratulate her in person. We hope Amelie and her family enjoys their visit back at Principality Stadium tomorrow for the match.”
Face coverings are still strongly recommended to be worn in indoor public places and you must still wear face coverings in shops, health and social care settings and on public transport. COVID-19 is still a risk, so we must continue to do what we can to limit the spread.
Ahead of Wales v Italy this Saturday, Principality Stadium encourages supporters to follow Welsh Government guidelines and wear a mask whilst travelling through the indoor areas of the stadium, however masks can be removed when supporters are in their seat to watch the game.
