The Arts Council of Wales announced last week that Theatr Felinfach and other arts organisations in Ceredigion should be considered as priorities for support from April 2016 onwards as part of their 2015 Investment Review.

The review highlighted that Theatr Felinfach – alongside a portfolio of 67 other organisations – celebrated the best of Wales on the world stage, and worked closely with local communities providing opportunities to see the best of the arts close to home.

The exact amount of funding is still to be confirmed as it will depend on the amount the Welsh Government decides to provide to the Arts Council of Wales, this will be confirmed next year.

Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn, Ceredigion County Council Leader said: “This announcement is wonderful news, and one we had hoped for. Theatr Felinfach offers a rich and diverse mix of live performances and live music nights, the majority of which are offered in the Welsh language. It is an important and widely recognised hub for participative Welsh language community arts. We are grateful that the Arts Council has agreed to continue the support for this important work.”

Other organisations in Ceredigion that were highlighted in the report include Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch and Theatr Mwldan.

Dai Smith, Chair of the Arts Council of Wales said: “It will be some months before we know the Government’s funding for the arts. Historically, the Welsh Government has been a stalwart supporter of the arts and we are confident that this will continue. The arts and creative industries are a great success story for Wales.”

He adds: “Over the past five years, there have been very significant increases in the number of people attending and taking part in the activities of our funded organisations. And with the support of the Welsh Government, the creative industries have been one of the Welsh economy’s biggest areas of growth. The arts are the nursery grounds that nurture the talents and skills needed for the creative industries. This is a good news story for the Welsh Government, and a good news story for Wales.”
