Cardiff Met announced as headline sponsor as Cardiff 10K & 2K Fun Run Returns After Two Year Absence

After a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cardiff 10K & 2K Fun Run – sponsored by Cardiff Met – returns this September to the streets of the Welsh capital.

The event, now officially titled The Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10K & 2K Fun Run, will take place on Sunday 4 September 2022, with 7,000 people expected to run through the heart of the city centre.

The event is open to participants of all abilities and, due to the appealingly flat nature of the route, prides itself on being accessible to wheelchair athletes and runners from the novice to the elite competitor.

Entries to the 10K passes some of the city’s best-known landmarks such as Cardiff Castle and The Principality Stadium, are expected to sell out. Therefore, early entry is advised to avoid disappointment.

Having been involved with the event as an associate body in 2018, Cardiff Met, which was named the UK and Ireland University of the Year 2021 recently by Times Higher Education,

signed title sponsorship for the 2019 event with the aim of further developing and promoting health and wellbeing across Wales and the UK.

Ben O’Connell, Cardiff Met’s Director of Sport, said: “As a leading university for sport, our sponsorship of this prestigious event aligns perfectly with our wider health and wellbeing strategy.

“At Cardiff Met we are passionate about sport and the positive difference it can make to our communities. Our vision is for Cardiff to be an active City where everyone can have a lifelong enjoyment of sport.  We are achieving this through our mission of tackling inequalities through Sport and Physical Activity.

“The Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10K & 2K Fun Run is an excellent opportunity for our students, staff and of course the wider community to sign up to a challenge, while at the same time following a fantastic route through our picturesque capital city.”

Front Runner Events, the organisers of the Cardiff 10K and 2K fun are thrilled to be working with the team at the Cardiff Metropolitan University for 2022. David Martin-Jewell, managing director at Front Runner Events said:

“This will be the third year of us delivering the Cardiff 10K and 2K fun run in association with Kidney Wales our charity partner for the event. We are delighted that we will be continuing working with the Cardiff Met and I’m excited to see what we can achieve together this year and in the future.”

Entry to the Cardiff 10K is open now, with places starting at £29.50 for affiliated club runners and £31.50 general ticket prices. The Cardiff 2K fun run is just £8 per person or families can enter for £22 and enjoy all the atmosphere of a big race in the city.
