DYAD: RISE & SET is a multi-sensory, immersive, collective experience at sunrise and sunset.
The two-part at home experience uses captivating audio and beautifully designed literature to bring participants together and explores a ritual around the sun. From 6th-10th April, DYAD: RISE & SET will run as five separate experiences packaged as evening on demand audio and a morning live audio broadcast and participants will receive a package in the post containing accompanying materials that enrich the experience and awaken every sense on their journey.
DYAD: RISE & SET is designed to be listened to at home, creating a dream-like voyage that explores themes of ritual, myth, and connectivity. The experience connects people regardless of their location to share in a collective act of watching the world, and to experience a little magic of the everyday, the shifting of light to darkness and from darkness to light.
Created by production company yello brick in collaboration with Hannah McPake, the experience is split into two parts. Participants will first experience SET, an on-demand broadcast to be listened to at sunset. SET narrates the story of an ordinary man who can’t sleep and as the boundary between sleep and wake becomes blurred, his reality begins to shift.
The second part of the experience takes the form of RISE, a live audio broadcast taking place at sunrise. RISE invites guests to sit by a window in their home and collectively listen to the story of a young woman on her walk through the city and towards the sea. An early morning ritual that sparks a global movement, a journey of reconnection to people and place. Listeners are welcome to stay on the broadcast after the finished performance to connect with fellow guests and explore their journeys together.
Originally conceptualised as a singular project during the first lockdown of 2020, the original DYAD experience explored the power of digital medium to create meaningful connections between people and place at a time when the world was isolated. For 2022, DYAD: Rise & Set progresses this further, extending the experience over night and day creating a unique multi-sensory journey of mind, soul, and self.
Funded by Arts Council Wales, DYAD: RISE & SET has been created with accessibility in mind by collaborating with access consultants to produce an experience that has multiple access points. There is the option to listen to the audio or interact with the materials in the package or do both together. Participants are invited to get in touch to discuss access requirements.
Alison John, Producer said;
“Over the last two years, with lockdowns and feelings of isolation, we have looked for ways to connect with each other and found beauty and interest in unexpected places, the most natural and simple things have become so much more important.
“This project is an opportunity for people to connect with a moment in time, the natural world and one another, through a mindful experience in their homes, knowing that others are taking part at the same time.”
DYAD: Rise & Set will run five performances across the 6th – 10th April with tickets starting from £15. For more information on DYAD: RISE & SET and yello brick, including details of how to purchase tickets, please see the website https://www.yellobrick.co.uk/dyad
