School-link student filmed for METAS DVD
A 14 year-old St John Lloyd Comprehensive School pupil studying a school link course in hairdressing at Coleg Sir Gâr has been filmed for a county-wide initiative entitled, My World.
My World, is a DVD driven by Carmarthenshire County Council’s Minority Ethnic and Traveller Achievement Service (METAS). It will be used as a training resource to raise awareness of the challenges faced by minority groups and ethnic pupils in education in Carmarthenshire. It’s supported by the Minority Ethnic Language and Achievement Project (MELAP) which is funded by the European Social Fund. The project aims to support 11-19 year olds in helping them to achieve in education in readiness for future employment.
Lecturer in hairdressing Margaret Ruzzak said: “Zubaida Kabir was filmed as a result of her genuine love of the course. She studies the Certificate in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector, every week at our Llanelli campus; she is extremely enthusiastic and creative which is reflected in practical classes.
“Zubaida has excellent technical afro-Caribbean techniques; which she demonstrates to her peers and staff.”
