Swansea Council is encouraging any group that’s interested in having a float at the event to get their application forms in by Friday October 16.
Six community floats will be picked to participate in the annual parade on Sunday November 15. The council will provide each group selected to take part with a tractor and driver, a trailer, safety scaffolding, a small diesel generator and festoon lighting.
Also wanted are walking processions in Christmas themed outfits. Ten walking processions will be picked to take part, but anyone who’s interested has to get their application forms in by Friday October 30.
The Christmas parade and annual Christmas lights switch-on will also feature Father Christmas, two commercial floats, marching bands, stilt walkers and walkabout characters.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “The Christmas parade is one of the highlights of our Christmas celebrations in Swansea. It effectively marks the start of the countdown to the big day.
“One of the reasons it’s so popular is because it brings people of all ages and from all Swansea’s communities together in a family-friendly atmosphere. This is why we’d urge community groups and anyone who’d like to take part in the event to get in touch as soon as possible to help further boost spirits at this magical time of the year.
“Together with Waterfront Winterland and other forthcoming Christmas events, the Christmas parade is sure to once again help make this year’s Swansea Christmas one to remember.”
Waterfront Winterland returns to Museum Park from Friday November 13 to Sunday January 3. Some of the attraction’s fun features this year will include a big wheel, the Admiral ice rink, a children’s rink, a family funfair and Santa’s Grotto.
