Peter Bleksley criticises German prosecutor’s ‘ludicrous’ comments
A former Scotland Yard detective has blasted the German cop in charge of the Madeleine McCann investigation.
Peter Bleksley hit out at comments made by the chief prosecutor tasked with investigating links between jailed German suspect Christian Brueckner and the disappearance of Maddie.
Hans Christian Wolters this week appeared to indicate that fibres from Maddie’s pyjamas may have been found in a van used by Brueckner.
But, in an embarrassing u-turn ,Wolters denied that days later.
In a scathing attack Peter Bleksley told GB News: “Well, yet again, hopes have been raised and probably dashed for many, many people who are so desperate to see some kind of resolution to Madeleine’s disappearance. My irritation rests mainly with Mr Wolters, the German prosecutor because in recent times, he’s said words to the effect of, we’ve got our man, but we haven’t got the evidence.
“Now I think he’s fundamentally failing to grasp the nettle here in that any pragmatic detective will tell you, there’s one thing knowing something and it’s a completely different thing, trying to prove it.”
He added: “Wolters has been saying that is – he’s almost saying it’s cut and dried but we don’t have the evidence, which is frankly ludicrous.”
Mr Bleksley was speaking during an interview with Colin Barzier on GB News
He also said that the prosecutor’s comments on the case could mean that Brueckner may never stand trial.
Mr Bleksley said: “If he were for example, in the UK, and was working for the Crown Prosecution Service under our justice system and a prosecutor said words to that effect, then a very smart defence lawyer would stand up at a trial and the very first thing he would say is my defendant cannot receive a fair trial because of these comments that Mr Wolters has been saying.
“But in any event, this is unwise. It’s given rise to speculation that it may have raised the hopes of many, many people.”
