A Christmas message from the Bishop of St Davids, The Right Reverend J Wyn Evans

The Christmas story is one of hope, embodied in the birth of a child in a manger in Bethlehem. It is a story of new beginnings, of God coming to be with His world and reaching out to His people.

The birth of a child is a cause for celebration, a happy event that will go on to re-define the experience of all those he or she touches and the relationships between them. And so it was at the time of the Nativity.

Jesus’ birth changed the world forever. Here was the beacon mankind had been seeking, a promise of better things to come, a ray of hope to lighten the darkness, which spread across the world.

Today, that light still shines; in our children as they grow, in our faith in them and in our hope that they can forge a brighter future for themselves, for their children and for humankind and the world around them.

For most families, the joy of Christmas is embodied in the smiles on the faces of the children. Their innocence reminds us of the fundamental truths that the Christmas story brings us. The miracle of the manger lives on in each one.

God sent His only son into our world so that, through Him, He could reach out to each one of us. Through His incarnation in the Christ child, He re-defines our relationships with each other, offering an unconditional love that brings meaning and hope in a world full of uncertainty.

Bishop of St Davids, The Right Reverend J Wyn Evans

Neges y Nadolig gan Esgob Ty Ddewi Dwy fil o flynyddoedd yn ol ‘roedd y sylw ar un teulu, teulu arbennig oedd wedi eu dadleoli ac mewn amgylchiadau anodd ond gyda’u gilydd. Hyd yn oed ers yr amgylchiad pwysig yn y stabl ym Methlehem mae Nadolig wedi bod yn amser i’r teulu. Bydd heddiw, I lawer, yr unig ddiwrnod mewn blwyddyn pryd mae cenedlaethau o deuluoedd yn dod ynghyd.

Ond I ni fel Cristnogion, mae gan ‘teulu’ ystyr ehangach.Ni ydi teulu Iesu Grist.ond does gan ein teulu ni unrhyw ffiniau na muriau, ac mae’r teulu am oes nid yn unig am y Nadolig. Mae’r teulu Cristnogol I bawb am byth. Mae’n cyrraedd ymhellach na dathliadau’r tymor , I mewn I bob dim a wnawn a phopeth sy’n bodoli.Mae o I wneud a chymuned.

Mewn gwirionedd mae’n well gen I feddwl amdano fel cymdogaeth. Mae’n ffydd yn natur warededig Crist yn ein symbylu I ymestyn at bawb o’n cwmpas. Ond pan fe’n gorchmynir ni I garu ein cymydog fel ni ein hunain, nid yw hynny’n golygu teulu drws nesa neu dros y ffordd neu yn y cor nesa atom.’Rydym wedi trafod yn eang yn ddiweddar ynglyn a chyfeiriad yr Eglwys yn ystod y degawd nesaf. Un o’r themau sydd wedi amlygu ei hun fwyaf ydi’r awydd I gofleidio y gymuned ehangach, a bod yn fwy croesawus tuag at ein cymdogion, gan gynnig ein hunain fel esiampl o bobl dda gyffredin.

Bydd hyn yn dibynnu’n hollol ar ble ‘rydych yn digwydd bod ar y pryd. Ond lle bynnag y byddwn a pha beth bynnag fydd angen, rhan o’n cenhadaeth fydd cynnig yr hyn sydd o fewn ein gallu a bydd rhaid I ni edrych allan am yr angen yn hytrach na aros iddo amlygu ei hun I ni.

Yng ngeiriau Sant Mathew ‘ chwi a’ch adnabyddwch wrth eich gweithredoedd’, Gadewch I ni gymryd adeg y Nadolig I ddangos i’r byd o’n cwmpas beth sydd gennym i’w gynnig,Cariad Crist a nerth yr Ysbryd Glan ydi’r rhoddion mwyaf I gyd. Ga ‘I ddymuno Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd fendithiol a ffrwythlon I chi I gyd.
