Pupils from St Oswalds School in Jeffreyston had a behind-the-scenes tour of Pembrokeshire County Council’s offices at County Hall in Haverfordwest yesterday (Thursday).
As well as visiting various departments from policy to planning, social care and education, the children met staff from the contact centre and canteen, and had a chat and refreshments with the Chairman, Cllr Wynne Evans.
Their tour was followed by a visit to the Council chamber, where they received a presentation by Wyndham Williams about some of the work done by Sport Pembrokeshire, before taking part in a lively debate.
They also enjoyed a presentation by Helen Evans, Archives and Local Studies Assistant, who brought along extracts from the 1915 log book for Jeffreyston School.
The pupils, who are in years four to six, were accompanied by the Chairman, Cllr Jacob Williams and Cllr Tony Brinsden, head teacher Margery Brown, and teachers Grant James, Sophie Flood, Christine Jackson and Kath Jones.
Mrs Brown said: “The visit was a worthwhile experience for our pupils to see how the County Council operates from the centre. They all thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to use the Council Chamber to explore the topic under debate.”
