Sustainable Leisure Brand Inland Sea Turns the Tide on Disposable Clothing with British Made Fabric Containing Seaweed

New clothing brand Inland Sea, the innovative, sustainable makers of T-shirts, hoodies and sweaters is the first to bring fibre that contains seaweed for manufacturing exclusively to the UK.  The new range features the brand’s trademark SeaBlend*Badge Tm outline TBC to produce beautifully soft garments for men, women, and children with a variety of different designs, created by founder Adam Costello.

This gives people an opportunity to choose sustainable, planet friendly basics rather than disposable, carbon producing fast fashion. Not only is it good for your skin and body when worn, but it can save energy as it requires less washing and helps retain hygiene through its antioxidant properties.

SeaBlendBadge Tm outline is a fabric made from fully traceable ‘Super Cotton’ and fibre which is derived from sustainable eucalyptus pulp which is mixed with seaweed creating garments so soft that they feel like a comforting second skin wash after wash. This is because the fabric retains its mineral properties such as iron, magnesium, and Vitamin E. The natural oils in our skin promote the transfer of these antibodies and this continues for the lifetime of the fabric making it a truly remarkable choice for clothing.

The new collection will feature several different designs, including a limited-edition range using seaweed prints based on pressed seaweed found on beaches around the UK, with descriptions of the seaweed and where it was found. As well as a range of plain garments with the words “Seaweed is added to this fabric, making it good for you and good for the planet”.

These 180 gsm T-shirts come in 3 colours: White, Irish Sea Grey and Lactuna Green and are available in sizes from XXS to 5XL.

There are also ranges that have been designed in collaboration with a selection of like-minded British brands including Sea Change wine which donates to marine conservation charities with every sale, Barti Rum a seaweed infused rum, The Scottish Marine Society, Café Notos in Rhosneigr, Funsports Surf Shop Rhosneigr and international organisation Urchinomics.

Adam Costello, founder and designer says: “I wanted to be able to manufacture everything here in the UK, bringing this incredible sustainable fibre to the only working cotton mill, here in the North West which is run by English Fine Cottons.  There are so many positives to come from this opportunity; to help put the UK on the map again for creating high quality clothing but this time we have the chance to do it right.  The North West gave birth to the industrial revolution and we can now be at the forefront of the Green revolution and prove that clothing can be created in a truly sustainable, ethical and environmentally friendly way.  We are very proud to be working with English Fine Cottons to make this all happen and we also want to prove a carbon positive manufacturing process is possible.”

SeaBlendBadge Tm outline will initially be made using 20% sustainable fibre and 80% Australian Super Cotton to create a yarn that is then knitted and dyed in the North West making its way back to English Fine Cottons for sewing.  The first T-shirts will be distributed by mid-May, with various pre-sale opportunities as we announce each design.

All items will be available at www.inlandsea.co.uk and in selected retailers.
