Pembrokeshire County Council has been ranked the ‘most improved Council in Wales.’
The listing follows the publication of the annual Improvement Review, which details the Authority’s performance in 2014-2015.
The review looked at whether the Council met the five improvement objectives set for the year along with progress made against other priorities.
As well as reporting back on actions and performance information, the report also contains information on spending, work with other local authorities and how people can get involved in planning for future service improvements.
The report also ranked Pembrokeshire as the sixth overall in Wales.
Council Leader, Councillor Jamie Adams said he was pleased that – based on published data from the Local Government Data Unit – Pembrokeshire was ranked ‘the most improved Council’.
“We achieved this at the same time as making significant changes in how we work and meeting resource and governance challenges,” he said.
“Our performance on waste management is among the best in Wales and has been achieved while making significant budgetary savings.
“In 2014/15 we maintained the quality of Adult Social Care services while spending less than we did in 2013/14.”
However he added that there were areas which the Council needed to improve.
“In Education, our performance is too variable and raising achievement at GCSE level is an urgent priority,” he said.
And he added: “Our improved performance is recognised in the Wales Audit Office Annual Improvement Report 2014-15. However, the Auditor General also commented that there are ‘….challenges which if unaddressed have the potential to limit the Council’s ability to secure improvement in the coming year’.”
