The pandemic may have temporarily paused the camaraderie, super teamwork & celebratory hugs that Superhero Tri has become famous for over the years, but now it’s back with a bang!
For the first time since 2019, a bumper 2,500 Superheroes & their super Sidekick family & friends are expected to descend on Dorney Lake this August, capes flying, for the unique tri events that throw out normal restrictions to allow everyone to experience the thrill of a large-scale sporting event.
Not that the Superhero community has been slacking while they’ve waited patiently for the event’s return. The Series launched two annual virtual events during the lockdowns that saw thousands unite remotely from the safety of their homes & neighbourhoods to collectively clock up hundreds of thousands of kilometres in virtual round-the-world races.
These ‘At Home’ events are now a permanent fixture alongside the live events, & a further 1,000 Superheroes & Sidekicks are expected to complete their missions from their neighbourhoods leading up to the Sidekick Tri live event.
“The virtual events are fantastic & kept us active & united when we needed it most, but the atmosphere at Superhero Tri is like nothing else,” says eight-time equestrian Paralympic champion Sophie Christiansen, who is a regular Celebrity Team Captain at the event. “I’m so excited to be able to see & celebrate alongside everyone again. It’s something I’ve really missed!”
Sophie Christiansen will take part alongside a whole host of Celebrity Team Captains, including TV presenter Alex Brooker & Bake Off star Briony Williams, who are both stepping up to their first-ever live Superhero event. For a chance to win a place on their relay teams, enter the Celebrity Competition at superheroseries.co.uk. Entries close on 27 May 2022.
