Residents receive road safety advice

Residents in Llanelli were able to see first-hand the consequences of driving too fast or without a seatbelt during a Road Safety Week event.

The Mid & West Wales Fire & Rescue Service’s ‘crashed car’ was on display in the town centre to help deliver some hard-hitting road safety messages.

The Community Safety Partnership’s Road Safety Action Group were out and about in Llanelli, Carmarthen and Ammanford with information and advice on speeding, careless driving, driving while using a mobile phone, driving on drink / drugs or while tired, or failing to wear a seatbelt.

The action group includes representatives from the council’s road safety team, the police and fire and rescue service.

The aim of Road Safety Week is to show what we can do to make roads safer and prevent needless tragedies.

Executive Board Member for Community Safety Cllr Pam Palmer said: “We hope we can encourage people to drive more responsibly to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads. Road safety and speeding in particular is a major concern and much work is underway.

“We will be launching a new campaign to tackle speeding on our roads, working with local communities to educate motorists on the dangers of driving too fast and encourage them to stick to the speed limits.”

A free prize draw to win a sat nav was held at all three events and the lucky winner was Liam Pugh from Llangennech.
