A study revealed how expensive airport car parking could actually be this summer for British holidaymakers.
Summer is right around the corner, and while you might already have your flights booked, bags packed and sunscreen at the ready, parking your car for the holidays can cost you a small fortune on top of the flights and stay, especially if you leave it until the last minute.
Turning up and parking is far more expensive, just as buying a plane ticket on the day you travel, so savvy shopping, which (in this case) is booking online in advance, can help you keep the costs down.
To test the best options, CasinoTop10.net looked at the cost of airport parking at each of the UK’s twenty busiest airports and compared their long stay car park prices for the duration of ten days in July 2022.
The overall average car parking rate for ten days came in at £96, although those travelling from London will pay £38 more, on average, when compared to those travelling outside of the capital.
Gatwick Airport emerged as having the most expensive airport parking, where a 10-days stay in their standard Long-Stay car park cost £166 – over three times more than the cheapest UK airport.
Coming in second place was Bristol Airport at £158.99, followed by London City at £155.45 and Heathrow Airport at £130.50.
At the other end of the spectrum, Bristol Airport was the cheapest, costing just £51.99 for an equivalent space and for the same amount of time.
And it’s also good news for anyone travelling from Glasgow Airport, which came out at the second cheapest in the rankings, at £54.99.

A spokesperson for CasinoTop10.net said: Paying on the day you travel costs around £154 more, on average, compared to booking online in advance. And in some cases – London City Airport – there’s a difference of a whooping £444.5 between the online booking and the Turn-Up & Park options.
The data is accurate for 2nd June and reports on the long-stay parking costs for ten days (2nd July – 12th July 2022). One thing to note is that the cost of airport parking can fluctuate from day to day, depending on availability and demand, so the prices and providers may have changed since this article was written.
