Figures
from the UK have revealed a significant increase in alcohol consumption, especially during the first lockdown, which started in March 2020.

With this in mind, Insurance Revolution has therefore sent out FOI requests (Freedom of Information) to all police stations and retrieved data from government websites.

This was to establish which UK regions had the least and the highest number of drink driving offences, drink driving arrests, court following an arrest, and finally numbers of positive or refused breath tests between 2017 and 2021.

The piece reveals that the UK regions with the highest and lowest number of drunk driving offences in 2021 were:

  • Highest- West Yorkshire Police (2398)
  • Lowest- Dyfed-Powys Police (438)

When Insurance Revolution explored the data regarding the number of people that have had  to go to court following arrest, they found there was a total of 528 in Derbyshire Constabulary.

They also investigated the UK regions that have the highest and lowest number of positive or refused breath tests. In 2019, these were:

  • Highest- Metropolitan Police Service (4271)
  • Lowest- City of London Police (139)
