Neath’s Victoria Gardens will once again play host this week to an exhibition in commemoration of World War One.

The free exhibition, which will be open every day from the 7th to the 14th of November, will remember the effect of the war both across the globe and locally in South Wales.

This year’s event features an artwork statue of a WW1 war dog, made entirely out of willow, following on from the War Horse that stood pride of place in last year’s exhibition.

On top of this a new Victoria Gardens wall of remembrance feature has been created within the exhibition, using an army cargo net, and luggage tags containing the names of local soldiers to the Neath and surrounding area who served in World War One, whose families visited last year’s centenary commemoration.

The Gardens will welcome back a replica of the trenches found during WW1, and a number of static exhibitions, photographs, and original artworks including an authentic period newspaper stand, with papers from the era.

Ceramic poppies in the style of those found at the Tower of London last year will also be on display.

Ali Thomas OBE, NPT Council Leader said: “I am delighted to welcome this event back to Victoria Gardens.”

“It’s important that we remember the tragic events of World War One and exhibitions such as this help inform our younger generations about the conflict and the role local people played in the war efforts.”

The Exhibition will be open between 10am and 4pm from Saturday 7th November to Saturday the 14th November.
