  • Wolves winger Adama Traore was the biggest Premier League flop last season, netting 1 goal in 1,067 minutes of football
  • Norwich’s Milot Rashica takes second, with Newcastle’s Chris Wood taking third
  • Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho almost make the top ten, sitting in 11th and 12th respectively

Adama Traoré is the Premier League’s biggest upfront flop from the 2021/22 season, new research has revealed.

The study by odds comparison site Odds Scanner analysed the statistics of all forwards who played more than 1,000 minutes in the Premier League last season to see which players had the worst ‘minutes per contribution’.

It found that Wolves winger Adama Traoré was the biggest flop, having only scored 1 goal with 0 assists in 1,067 minutes of football. Despite only playing half the season at Wolves, he still manages to top the list, having moved on loan to Barcelona in the January transfer window. Traoré moved to Wolves in 2018 for £18 million, scoring eight goals in 123 games overall.

Norwich’s Milot Rashica comes in second place, with 1 goal and two assists in 2,229 minutes of football, giving him a minute per contribution of 743. Rashica was one of Norwich’s top signings after they were promoted to the Premier League last season, transferring from Werder Bremen for a fee of around £9.9 million.

Chris Wood takes third place, with the Newcastle United striker spending half the season at Burnley and half the season at the Magpies. He transferred in the January window for £27 million, a hefty fee considering he only scored two goals in 1,327 minutes of football, giving him 664 minutes per every contribution on the pitch. Wood’s transfer was the most expensive signing at the club since the club’s 2021 consortium takeover.

Another recent Norwich signing, Josh Sargent, takes fourth place, with two goals and one assist in 1,572 minutes, giving him 525 minutes per contribution. Along with Rashica, he joined newly promoted Norwich at the start of last season for £8.5 million. His Premier League goals came in the same game, in a 3-0 win against Watford in January of this year.

Coming in fifth place is the second Wolves player on the list, Francisco Trincão, who netted two goals and got one assist in 1,336 minutes of football, giving him a minutes per contribution stat of 445. He arrived at Wolves in July 2021 on a season-long loan from Barcelona, with an option to make the move permanent.

Wonderkids Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho narrowly missed the list, placing 11th and 12th, respectively. Grealish arrived at Man City in August 2021 for a fee of £105 million, and his 6 goal contributions in 1,914 minutes of football gave him a minutes per contribution stat of 319. Jadon Sancho also made a big move to Man United in the same window, moving from Dortmund for £76 million. He only managed 6 goal contributions in 1,900 minutes, giving him a close minutes per contribution stat of 319 minutes.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson from Odds Scanner said: “It’s disappointing to see some of last season’s most promising players underperform based on these statistics. With many Premier League club’s marquee signings making their way into the list, it gives a clue into the pressure that might come with a big transfer in one of the biggest leagues in the world.”
