Scarlets have today issued a medical update ahead of Saturday’s European Rugby Champions Cup clash against Northampton Saints at Franklin’s Gardens.
Morgan Allen
Number 8 Allen suffered a ruptured bicep during a contact training session ahead of Scarlets’ opening PRO12 clash against Glasgow. He is making good progress and expected to make a return before the end of the year.
Will Boyde
Scarlets’ young flanker Will Boyde suffered medial ligament damage to his knee and foot at the region’s friendly against the Dragons in August. Following complex surgery to his foot the flanker is expected to be out for up to 16 weeks.
Steffan Hughes
Former Wales Under 20s captain Steffan Hughes underwent knee reconstruction surgery in January after an injury sustained playing for Llanelli RFC. He is ahead of schedule, has returned to non-contact training with the squad, and is targeting a return at the end of November.
Rhodri Jones
The Welsh international prop suffered a torn pec during World Cup training. He is back in non-contact training and is expected to make a return in November.
Josh Macleod
Scarlets development player Josh Macleod suffered a broken ankle in Llanelli’s clash against Carmarthen Quins. He has undergone reconstructive surgery and is expected to make a return in February.
Jack Payne
Australian forward Payne suffered an ankle injury in Llanelli RFC’s defeat to Pontypridd and went under the knife on Tuesday 15th September.
Rory Pitman
Number 8 Rory Pitman suffered a ruptured bicep (left arm) whilst representing Llanelli RFC against Bridgend. He has undergone surgery and is likely to be sidelined until the New Year.
Steven Shingler
Shingler was unavailable for selection ahead of Scarlets’ clash against Leinster last weekend due to a toe sprain. He is expected to be available for selection for the opening round of the European Rugby Champions Cup on Saturday.
Aled Thomas
Thomas is undergoing return to play protocols after a bump in Friday night’s clash against Leinster.
Liam Williams
Fullback Williams has undergone surgery on a metatarsal fracture in his foot. He is expected to make a return to action in January.
Scott Williams
Williams suffered a knee injury in Wales’ victory over England in the Rugby World Cup. He is endeavouring to make a return to action by the end of the season.
