Wales has so much going for it. Not only is it the most picturesque nation in the UK, but it’s home to a wide collection of fashionable clothing brands, so many that we’re almost spoiled for choice!

With that in mind – here are 6 of the best up and coming stylish Welsh clothing brands to buy from right now.

  1. Hiut Denim Co.

Hiut are some of the finest jeans on the market, beautifully hand-crafted in a small factory in Cardigan. The company prides itself on making the best jeans using only the highest quality materials (organic denim from Turkey and selvedge denim from Japan), and have been worn by members of  Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead, as well as the world’s best chef René Redzepi.

They use eco balls to mechanically soften their fabrics without chemicals, and an environmentally friendly eco wash. The coolest thing? Like any great artist, each pair is signed off by the maker.

Their ethos of ‘doing one thing well’ really sets them apart. Making just 200 pairs of jeans a week, they can focus on making the best quality jeans, rather than the highest number of jeans.

  1. Perverse Demand

Founded by Welshman Nathan Palmer, Perverse Demand offers a new genre of fashion, inspired by street, skate, and sneaker culture. From relaxed sweats to jerseys and sherpa truckers, they offer comfortable and authentic clothing made with the best quality fabrics and materials, to help you stand out from the crowd.

Every item of clothing is thoughtfully designed by Nathan himself. so you can create a unique and captivating look that is simply incomparable to anything else on the market.

If we were to sum up Perverse Demand in three words, it would be fresh, exciting, and 100% authentic.

  1. Adam Jones

Inspired by old man boozers and cheap lager, young Welsh designer, Adam Jones, has created a different kind of luxury label.

His garments are made using discarded and unwanted vintage materials such as bar towels from the pub, tea towels from the kitchen, vintage blankets from the bedroom and other cloth taken predominantly from the 1970’s and 80’s,forgotten in time but brought back to life.

The assemblage of references is a nostalgic trip for those old enough to remember yet fresh to those who don’t, these clothes really are for everyone, there’s a familiarity here, but it feels new, comforting but contemporary.

Embracing what is deemed ugly and reimagining it through his clothing, one of his signature pieces is a made-to-order sweater vest crafted from upcycled Tetley’s beer towels. Pretty cool, eh?

  1. You Must Create

Taking its name from a quote by the famous industrial designer Raymond Loewy; “You must create your own design style”, YMC was founded by Welshmen Fraser Moss and Jimmy Collinscall and prides itself on delivering unisex clothing that stands the test of time.

Workwear made of selvedge denim and corduroy two-pieces are centrepieces in the seasonal collections, and the brand  is known for its sellout collaborations with the likes of Farah, footwear brand Yogi and Lovers FC. Each collection is influenced by Moss’s passion for arts, music and literature, and his enduring post-punk, DIY attitude.

  1. Work Shy

Founded in early 2019, Work Shy design and create durable workwear from organic cotton canvas, made to last a lifetime, not just a season. Using only ethically sourced fabrics and eco-friendly dyes, every step of the Work Shy process is done with the environment in mind.

Their dyes give Work Shy’s jackets their unique look and feel, as unlike heavy chemical dyes, their dyes soften and mature with wear giving that authentic french workwear appeal.

While they’ve gradually expanded from small-scale, made-to-order production into larger manufacturing, sustainability has always been their central manifesto. By offering free repairs for life, as well as a buyback scheme, Work Shy are closing the loop, enabling a circular economy, and eliminating waste.

  1. Clecs

Clecs was founded by two Welsh sisters from Cardiff, Imogen and Bea, based on their love for Wales and the environment. All of their products are designed, printed and embroidered in Cardiff to ensure Welsh companies are supported throughout the whole production process. All garments are also 100% organic, with sustainability at the forefront of their minds.
