Dear Editor,

While we are no longer living with the restrictions once imposed due to Covid-19 and the subsequent worries brought on by the virus, for many of us, our lives remain far from care-free.

Every day we are faced with the devastating circumstances forced upon our Ukrainian neighbours and the consequences for wider Europe. Not only that, but closer to home we are experiencing a cost-of-living crisis, with bills and uncertainty continuing to rise.

Although many things seem uncertain, one thing which remains indisputable is the importance of having a will, ensuring people’s wishes and their loved ones are protected when they die. And that’s where Will Aid can help.

Will Aid partners with solicitors across the UK every November, who volunteer some of their time to write basic wills and – instead of charging their normal fees – ask for a donation to the Will Aid campaign. The suggested donations of £100 for a single will and £180 for a pair of mirror wills are lower than the normal fees of most solicitors, so represent great value for clients. The money raised directly supports the vital work of Will Aid’s nine partner charities who themselves are just emerging from the financial impact of the pandemic while tirelessly responding to emergencies such as the war in Ukraine and cost-of-living crisis.

With the rising cost-of-living impacting everyone’s wallet, we predict a large number of people will look to get their will during Will Aid this November. To meet that demand, we need the support of more solicitors across the UK.

But it’s not just the public and the Will Aid charities who benefit. Solicitors are introduced to lots of new clients who often require additional services over and above a basic will, which can be charged for by participating solicitors – and it’s a great way to build relationships with people who will need more advice in the future. Not only that, but the campaign also provides firms with opportunities to raise the profile of their business with the support of Will Aid’s enthusiastic PR team.
