On Friday 15 July 2022, the House of Lords Common Frameworks Scrutiny Committee will be publishing its report on the common frameworks programme.

As a crucial, but largely overlooked mechanism for post-Brexit coordination between the four administrations of the United Kingdom, the report considers how common frameworks are at risk of becoming a missed opportunity for strengthening cooperation within the Union. This is as a result of post-Brexit legislation, including the Internal Market Act 2020 and the Subsidy Control Act 2022, which has damaged relations between the four administrations. The report also highlights that common frameworks could become a serious casualty of political fall-out in Northern Ireland, and that limited transparency and effective central coordination in Government has resulted in common frameworks that are lacking in quality.
