Menopause: A New Beginning, Not The End

The thought of menopausing can be daunting for some women, with unwelcome symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, hormonal surges and mood swings. A casualty of the menopause-related problems is also the loss of a healthy and fulfilling sex life and losing intimacy with a partner – all of which exacerbate an already difficult emotional time in women’s lives.  Not to mention, menopause indicates the end of one chapter of a woman’s life, and the start of another. Middle age eventually leads to old age, which is why some women struggle mentally and emotionally with this physical cycle.

Dr Julianne Arena, a double board certified physician and educator, who is passionate about women’s health and wellbeing, sees it differently:

Dr Julianne Arena

“Menopause is a natural progression. We can’t choose whether we want to menopause or not, although the symptoms experienced by women can be vastly different. What we can choose however is our perception of it, and learn to embrace it rather than fear it. Rather than see it as the end, I encourage you to see it as a new beginning.”

Why Life Post Menopause is Great:

  1. No More Periods: Let’s face it, no woman I know enjoys having a period. Period. Menopause marks the end of the menstrual cycle and with that comes no more bleeding, no more period product, no inconvenience and no more pain. Now that’s worthy of a celebration right there!
  2. No More PMS: Premenstrual syndrome can cause a slew of physical and emotional symptoms. Ask any partner in your life… they would have been at the receiving end of your irritability and mood swings at some point. Well, the good news is that PMS disappears after menopause as does the hormonal roller coaster that peri-menopause brings.
  3. Sex and Only Sex: Women in menopause and post menopause can enjoy sex without having to worry about getting pregnant. This is hugely beneficial as women can now enjoy the pleasures of love making without having to worry about any other consequences that could be life changing. Disclosure: still be careful of STDs.
  4. Sexual Freedom: At this point in your life, there’s a good chance that your children (if you have any) are all adults and have moved out. That means that you and your partner can once again enjoy your sexual relationship unhinged. Let loose!  It’s liberating and you’ve earned it.
  5. Age is But a Number: Don’t let age be a stumbling block in your happiness. Embrace middle age and all the wisdom and experiences that comes with it. I revert back to sex again – we are biologically hardwired for intimacy and connection.  So, if menopause has wreaked havoc on your sex life, remember that age is but a number!  Women of all ages should be enjoying a healthy sex life. There are medical treatments available that can rejuvenate your sexual wellbeing with one treatment being Cliovana,  a sound wave technology that boosts the process of regenerating cells in the genitals resulting in improved blood flow and nerve endings to the clitoris. As your body is constantly regenerating cells, Cliovana boosts the process which can lead to an increase in clitoral responsiveness leading to increased arousal, and lubrication, increased orgasm intensity and frequency and greater overall sexual satisfaction. Boom!  The Diva is Back!
